Great news for gamers as Playstation Plus is giving away free membership for one weekend starting on Friday, March 20th at 12:01am Pacific and ending on Sunday, March 22nd at 11:59pm Pacific. Although gamers will be able to play online multiplayer games with friends, the free promotion will not entitle the subscribers to discounts and free titles that come with full membership.
For Playstation gamers that have not subscribed before, this will allow them to essentially take a free watered down tour of the service with no commitment. The offer is only open to Playstation 4 owners and will help Sony to entice more subscribers to their existing customer pool. This is not the first time Sony Playstation have tried to lure more gamers into their subscription service as they ran another free weekend back in September 2014. Unlike their latest offering, their first did include a host of free Playstation Plus games for their three gaming consoles PS3, PS4 and PS Vita.
Essentially these free weekends will help to boost Sony’s revenue figures by up-selling their 1 month, 3 months or 1 year membership packages. It has been a good year for Sony Corporation with their share price rising 54% during the past 12 months of trading and intelligent marketing such as is this will only help to improve growth.
