4 Reasons Why The X-Files Revival Is a Great Idea

The X-Files will be back for a special series of six episodes and that is now official. Fox Mulder – the believer and Dana Scully – the skeptic are returning to mystery solving and that gives fans reasons enough to celebrate, given the fact that it has passed thirteen years since The X-Files ending. On that very note, I decided to compose a list of 4 reasons which are evident proof of the fact that The X-Files comeback is a terrific idea.

1. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson
When the new X-Files episodes and stories unfold and spread terror among those watching, Mulder and Scully will be there to solve crime mysteries for us. The most important argument of all is that the two investigators will return as we left them a couple of thirteen years ago – as David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson (but, of course, a little bit older). In this way, we are given the change to remember the actors in the roles which propelled them to fame as a team. Seeing David Duchovny as Fox Mulder after having known and loved him as Hank Moody in Californication will be quite a challenge. Same for Gillian Anderson, who, in the meantime, has become Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier in Hannibal (TV Series) and even old Dickensian Miss Havisham in Great expectation TV Mini-Series back in 2011.

2. The world becomes mystery
In the official announcements of The X-Files revival, series creator/executive producer Chris Carter shared his opinion on the matter and his argument seems quite valid and updated to the realities of these days. He said: ‘’ The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories’’. If back in 1993 the idea of an X-Files-like TV series might have seemed an impossibility before the show starting running, now we are accustomed with the idea and we even came to love it. Science fiction, horror or grotesque television series like Lost or Supernatural are just two examples of series which got to the heart of the audience through illusive means.

3. Emotional implication
The X-Files TV series had a long run from 1993 to 2002 and during that time, it gathered more and more adepts. Those at a fragile age at that time now remember The X-Files as their first mystery/ science fiction experience and the idea of a revival after such a prolonged time span might be perceived by those as a chance to return to childhood. On the other side, adults who constantly watched The X-Files while it was broadcast and tried to understand the solved cases along with Mulder and Scully, turned the two investigators into their friends and seeing them again in action must be a thrilling piece of news.

4. The X-Files theme song
If the numerous stories of every investigation multiplied as more and more seasons of The X-Files unfolded, one thing remained unchanged. No, unfortunately it was not cast. The one thing about the series that remained unchanged over the years and the one which will hopefully remain the same even for the revival of the show is the theme song. Along with a short but catchy visual intro – this included of the names of the actors and some paranormal images, the theme song came as a herald of terror to announce The X-Files mysteries.
