Nina Dobrev means not only Elena Gilbert, as she played numerous characters in the famous romance bloody series, The Vampire Diaries, including Katherine Pierce and Amara. Tragic for the fans of the show, their heroine – and sometimes malefic figure – is officially saying goodbye to an adventure which lasted six years, Variety reported. As a bonus, Nina Dobrev is not leaving alone, as it seems that actor Michael Trevino (Tyler Lockwood) is in the same situation.
Nina Dobrev posted the following message on Instagram: ‘’I’ve just spent the most beautiful weekend on Lake Lanier in Georgia with my own TVD Family, the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries’’, nothing unusual or terrifying until now, a family of actors and friends enjoying a weekend. But the real news was just sugarcoated, as Dobrev underlined that she wanted to be the first to officially make the announcement: ‘’I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn’t just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party. I always knew I wanted Elena’s story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime. I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there’s still so much more to come before the season finale in May.’’ The impact of those six years and seasons spent along with The Vampire Diaries crew was also obvious in the personal development of actress Nina Dobrev, who continued: ‘’Elena fell in love not once, but twice, with two epic soulmates, and I myself made some of the best friends I’ll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever.”
No matter how disappointing or sad the news of Nina Dobrev’s leaving may sound for The Vampire Diaries fans, executive producer Julie Plec embraced the actress’ decision of moving on, traveling, gathering other roles and other adventures to enjoy: “Saying goodbye to Nina is both bittersweet and beautiful. After six-plus years together, the entire cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries has reached a level of closeness that I don’t think any of us ever expected. (…) Nina is excited to spread her wings, get some rest, travel the world and also take it by storm, and we support her a thousand-fold.’’ Plec sounds positive even though the leaving of Nina Dubrev might mean that the entire series will have to be reshaped: ‘’We will miss Nina and the four hundred characters she played, but we look forward to the insane and exciting challenge of continuing to tell stories of our Salvatore Brothers and our much-loved and gifted ensemble.”
After commenting on the leaving of Nina Dobrev, it was still Julie Plec the one who confirmed the leaving of a second actor, Michael Trevino. Trevino played the part of Tyler Lockwood, snobbish kid who was eventually turned into a werewolf. About Trevino, Plec shared the same bittersweet thoughts, as she considered him to be ‘’a beloved member of The Vampire Diaries family since day one.’’ Executive producer Julie Plec is confident that her young stars have many other fascinating adventures waiting for them, and yet again assures The Vampire Diaries fans that so is the case of their favorite vampire series, no matter the leaving of two beloved actors and way more characters: Nina Dobrev and Michael Trevino.
