The teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is officially out and it is a sight to behold. Only 88 seconds of footage were enough to make the waiting even more painful but, thankfully, we have loads of video games to scratch that Star Wars itch. These may not be your best Star Wars games ever but their replayability and atmospheric accuracy prove to stand the test of time. These 10 video games will surely get you in touch with the Force.
10.Star Wars: Empire At War(2006)
This may not be everyone’s type of Star Wars game mainly because it does not put you in the shoes of a Jedi or a Sith. But that’s what makes it stand out. Being a strategy game, it puts you in control of entire armies of droids, rebels, and ,yes, Jedi and Sith.Fight your way on land or in space and experience massive dog fights between The Empire and The Rebels. This is a must play for RTS enthusiasts.
9.Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy(2006)
For those who want a more carefree take of the Star Wars universe, then the original Lego trilogy is your best choice. Critics praised the game for its “adorable” portrayal of the franchise’s characters and sold over 8 million copies worldwide. It’s like the Star Wars you grew up with but made of Lego.
8.Jedi Knight III: Jedi Academy(2003)
This third-person action game puts you in the shoes of Jaden Korr, a young padawan that will be trained in the ways of the Jedi by none other than Luke Skywalker and Kyle Katarn. The game’s plot is good enough for a quick fix and the multiplayer is very addictive. It was the first game to take a non-linear approach mission-wise and you got to customize your lightsaber. Pretty neat.
7.The Old Republic(2011)
After Star Wars: Galaxies shut down, we were left playing alone for a while. But then EA decided that enough is enough and gave us The Old Republic. This MMO throws us thousands of years before the events of the first movie( Phantom Menace lore-wise) and gave us the chance to once again play with friends on over-populated servers.
6.Star Wars: The Force Unleashed(2008)
You are Darth Vader’s apprentice. Not enough? This game was very hyped in 2008 for its incredible use of the Euphoria engine that basically let you lift storm troopers and bend them at your will. This is the only game in this list that truly makes you feel like the Force is at your whim. Oh, and you play as Darth Vader in the first level.
5.Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back(1993)
This oldie for the NES platform let you play as multiple characters from the original trilogy and had loads of cool features especially for its time. Each character had a specific ability, so if you didn’t like Luke you could choose Han Solo and blast your way through the level. This game also took advantage of SNE’s 3D feature. It’s a step up from the original Super Star Wars with improved graphics.
4.Star Wars: Republic Commando(2005)
Let’s say that you skip the lightsaber parts in the movies and focus more on the army side, the rough life of the soldier. Well then, Republic Commando may be what you’re looking for. This is the only game on this list that doesn’t let you wield a lightsaber but instead throws you in the most bad ass clone trooper team ever. The game is set during the Clone Wars and you are the commander of a specially bred team of troopers. This FPS is highly recommended for those who prefer a tactical approach.
3.Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast(2002)
No game left you wanting to wield a lightsaber more that Jedi Outcast. You played a good chunk of the game with blasters and Wookie bows, yet maybe that was Raven Software’s intention. Make you crave and work for that privilege. It had stand-out graphics for its time and the gameplay in itself is enough to warrant a quick play.
2.Star Wars Battlefront II(2005)
You’d think that controlling armies was cool but being on the battlefield surrounded by your buddies is another thing. The first installment was super fun yet the second game truly shines with its crisp gameplay and enormous battlefields. The dog fights are entertaining and the game play is fast-paced. You can play as a droid, bounty hunter or any kind of character from the Star Wars universe. The multiplayer is still fun to play to this day.
1.Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic(2003)
Truly, no other game on this list can make you feel more as a Jedi as BioWare’s Knights of the Old Republic. This role-playing game takes place thousands of years before the events of the films putting you between the struggle of Jedi and Sith. Not to mention it has one of the most amazing twists ever in gaming history. This may very well be the definitive Star Wars game.
