Showtime’s Web Therapy aired its 1st episode of the 4th season and it sticks to the same formula and stars. Lisa Kudrow portrays the online therapist that treats patients trough an online video chat service. In the previous seasons it’s been sponsored by Skype, but this time around we have no such logos. The Microsoft company seems to have dropped the show, even though it’s more star filled than ever. First episode featured guest stars such as Billy Crystal and Gwyneth Paltrow. The cast for the season premiere rather restrained compared to many episodes of Season 3, this might be a sign that the show isn’t doing well on funds.
Another sign that the show might be nearing an end is the premise that the Web Therapy service might end. Billy Crystal’s character (step father) tells Lisa Kudrow’s character they will shut down the service. It’s the kind of intrigue that might just show that the writers are running out of ideas. The show’s formula has been very innovative from the start, everything happens trough “webcams” in front of computers. The characters are always video-chatting. This is a big budget saver, with more allowance for talent, such as guest stars.

The show became popular quickly with former Friends star, Lisa Kudrow promoting it on various talk shows. Lisa has been on Conan, Kimmel and several other popular talk shows. One of the best parts of the show is the ending which always features bloopers – revealing an insight into the way the show is made. Much of the dialogue is improvised due to the very talented guest stars. It has been a winning formula, and Showtime has a new episode programmed for every week of the year, 12 so far. In typical fashion we can expect to see famous comedian guest stars, specially from the olden days (like Billy Crystal).
