Death of Jack Bruce, Cream bass player

The Scottish musician, songwriter and singer, Jack Bruce, internationally on record due to his former membership of the 1960’s band Cream, dies of liver disease at the age of 71. The misfortune found the singer in the midst of his relatives, in the comfort of his home. The news of his passing was firstly broadcasted on his official website and then confirmed by his publicist, Claire Singers. The words of his bereaved family are as follows: ’’It is with great sadness that we, Jack Bruce’s family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend. The world of music will be a poorer place without him but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts’’.

Jack Bruce’s statement as a worldwide appreciated figure on the music stage of the years 1960 consisted of the creation of the band Cream, of which Jack Bruce would be part alongside legendary guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker. Although the collaboration of the tree musicians ended shortly, lasting for only 2 years – from July 1966 to 1968 – Jack Bruce had in the meantime proved to be one of the most creative and devoted members of the band. Jack co-wrote most of the singles with lyricist Pete Brown, including the hits ’’Sunshine of Your Love’’, ’’I Feel Free’’ or ’’White Room’’.

The brief existence of the band Cream and its ginormous success and appeal to the audience foretold the lifelong solo carrier of Jack Bruce. While studying cello at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Jack Bruce had already discovered his passion for jazz music, but the educational institution of Scotland highly disagreed of its student’s inclinations towards such kind of music. As a consequence, the bass player was asked either to cease nourishing that passion for jazz music, or leave college. Jack Bruce chose freedom of mind and expression instead of traditionalism and conformity with his act of leaving his studies. The disbanding of Cream and the subsequent solo career of the bassist proved not only that he was once more an artist with a great personality and willpower, but also his innovative spirit. His last solo project, Silver Rails, was launched in March 2014.
