Although recognized by the large public as Sherlock Holmes’ companion, Dr. John Watson, Jude Law is circling to switch sides and act as villain in a future production. According to Variety, the actor is about to regroup with Guy Ritchie (the director behind Sherlock Holmes) in his upcoming movie, Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur. The film is scheduled for release on 22 July 2016. Nevertheless, his joining the camp of mendacious characters is still a rumor; hence, the news waits for confirmation.
Joby Harold is the writer behind the script (known for Awake), and together with the producers hopes to obtain another franchise for Warner Bros., which would include six movies under the same main story of Arthur and his Knights. It is yet uncertain if Jude Law will retain his part in all the sequels – presuming that he is officially announced as villain in Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur.
Actors who are officially announced as casts in Guy Ritchie’s Arthurian adventure are Charlie Hunnam and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey. Hunnam is set to play the lead, as he becomes the legendary King Arthur. He is formerly known for his role as Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller in Sons of Anarchy TV Series, or parts in movies such as Children of Men (2006) or Pacific Rim (2013). The Spanish born Astrid Bergès-Frisbey will play the part of Guinevere, queen of Camelot and famous in popular Arthurian stories for her love affair with one of the knights of the round table, Lancelot. The actress is known for her role as Syrena in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011).
The last important role to be chosen by Guy Richie remains the one of Arthur’s mentor. At one point, the director made his choice, but the two parties involved could not reach an agreement. Variety reports: ‘’Idris Elba was originally in contention, but a deal could not be reached, and the two sides parted ways’’.
Jude Law fans hope that no such turn of events will happen in the case of the Sherlock Holmes actor. After all, seeing him in the position of the villain after a positive role such as Dr. John Watson, would be a proof of his versatile acting skills and a treat for enthusiasts.
