FX is known for many great TV shows that are not really grounded to one specific genre. This is proof that they are able to handle every bit of funny and serious with ease. Now it seems that there is another show that will be stepping into the light and it is called “Taboo”. What makes it stand out more though is that none other than Tom Hardy (Dark Knight Rises, Peaky Blinders) will be starring in the lead role and producing alongside award winning Riddley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner) and Academy award nominated writer Steven Knight (Locke, Eastern Promises). The story behind “Taboo” is actually based on another story created by Tom Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy.
“Taboo” is set in the 19th century and it centers around the character of James Keziah Delaney, a rogue adventurer, who returns from Africa with 14 diamonds to avenge the death of his father. Refusing to sell his family business to the East India Trading Company, he decides to start his own trading empire but finds himself playing a very dangerous game. Series creator Steven Knight will reunite with Hardy for “Taboo”, this not being the first time they have crossed paths. Knight’s last film called “Locke” had Hardy starring in the lead role and it proved to be one of the actor’s most powerful performances to date. This is evidence that the pairing of these two works splendidly. Riddley Scott said that ” FX is the perfect partner to engage with this dark, fantastic world that Tom and Steven have created. We’re glad to have them on board.”
Scott Free Films and Hardy Son and Baker will be producing the eight episode first season for BBC while Knight’s Sonar Entertainment will distribute the show internationally. “Taboo” is not Hardy’s first appearance on the silver screen but the second, he also starred in the BBC Two drama Peaky Blinders. And guess who created Peaky Blinders? Steven Knight. We will be waiting patiently for the airing of Taboo which will happen somewhere around the middle of 2016 with production starting in the middle of 2015.
