Google has begun the global rollout of its brand new mobile operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop. Android Lollipop is the newest mobile operating system from the company which can also support 64 bit configurations. The most interesting and hyped about part of Android 5.0 Lollipop is the new Material Design, which we’ve seen on the Nexus 9 and Nexus 6. While everybody is cheering once the Android 5.0 Lollipop update hits their devices, there are constant bug reports flowing in to Google.
As it happened with iOS 8, Android 5.0 Lollipop isn’t perfect. At least not yet. Before detailing the various Android Lollipop bugs people have noticed after installing the OTA (over the air update), you should know that the first release of a mobile operating system tends to be buggy, but Google will surely issue fixes as soon as possible. Just the same, if you encounter Nexus 4 bugs, Nexus 5 bugs, or bugs on any other device which has recently received the update, remember to always send bug reports to Google so that developers can work on fixing those issues.
Some users are reporting that after the Nexus 7 Android 5.0 Lollipop update was installed on their slate, the device became close to unusable. The Nexus 7 runs slowly and crashes multiple times during use. Some say Android 5.0 Lollipop bugs impacted their Nexus 7 so bad that they were rendered unusable, crashing all the time in the midst of apps. The Android 5.0 Lollipop update also seem to impact Adore Air built applications, removing them upon install and then not allowing users to re-install them. According to BBC, Adobe didn’t know about the bug, but will contact Google to resolve it.
Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 users have also experienced Android 5.0 Lollipop bugs. These users report that since the update, they are unable to send SMS messages. The issue, as per Google, is also affecting Nexus 6 users. The SMS one tries to send on affected devices never reaches the recipient. Still, one can receive SMS messages. The issue seems to be circling among Vodafone and Mobistar customers at the moment. Other app switcher Android 5.0 Lollipop bugs have also been detected. The app switcher in Lollipop seems to malfunction at times, showing cards even if a user has cleared all recent apps.
So far, only Nexus 7 critical bugs were reported upon installing Android 5.0 Lollipop. Besides the generally slow performance of the slate, users reported that Chrome is rendered unusable with Lollipop, while Mozilla Firefox works, but is still very slow and laggy. Virtual keyboards take forever to load once the update is installed and when it eventually loads, it crashes repeatedly when users try to swipe or type faster than usual. In any case, we hope Google and its team of developers will address the Android 5.0 Lollipop bugs as soon as possible.
