Director Ridley Scott’s 2012 movie Prometheus garnered praise for its beautiful CGI and was a box office hit. Nevertheless, it did leave many fans of the old Alien movies with a bitter taste considering the built up hype and high reputation that was built prior to the film’s release. As a stand alone movie it’s good but as a prequel to the Alien franchise it was only decent. Now the sequel of Prometheus is shaping up and Ridley Scott promises us a new type of monster, one that we will enjoy just as much as the 1979 xenomorph. During his promotional tour of his new film Exodus: Gods and Kings the legendary filmmaker shared some tid bits.
During an interview with The Australian, Ridley Scott teased the new foe of the Alien prequel/sequel/spin off. His opinion regarding the original Alien seems to indicate that he will be distancing himself further and further: the director is “getting away from gods and dragons and s–t” possibly referencing H.R Geiger’s creature from the 1979 film. The Hollywood monster is in Ridley Scott’s eyes “the definitive dragon” stating that “the alien’s real which is why it’s probably one of the scariest monsters in film history. The ending shot of Prometheus featured an alien that deeply resembled the original something that the director wants to get away from. “With Prometheus 2 what I’m trying to do is reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act.” Trying to introduce a new form of monster in an already overly saturated monster medium is a hard task but considering his past outings in the genre, it is highly likely that he will succeed. We will have to wait and see.
In the same interview, Ridley Scott also assured fans that the sequel to the iconic Blade Runner movie is alive and kicking saying that the script is “written and it’s really good.” The original Prometheus cast has been reduced to two remaining stars, Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender both of which will be returning for Prometheus 2 with its release currently slated for March of 2016. Heroes and Kings scribe Michael Green is writing the script for the sequel.
