Some technical details about Apple’s long rumored business mega tablet, the iPad Air Plus, have been leaked online by an Apple fan website, Gizmodo reports. The leaked info was first revealed by the Japanese website Mac Fan, and supposedly contains the schematics and specifications of a 12+ inch tablet by Apple.
Bloomberg has reported back in August that Apple is preparing a business class tablet computer with a 12.9″ screen diagonal. The new leak seems to confirm that report, but with some minor differences – according to the Japanese website, the new tablet will have a 12.7″ screen. The new monster tablet will have quite a few innovative features, the rumors say – Apple’s yet unannounced A9 processor and four speakers for stereo sound “in any orientation”, Gizmodo reports. Apple was expected to reveal its business tablet this September, when it announced its iPad Air 2, but it has allegedly been delayed due to the high demand for the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.
There are some voices – including Gizmodo editor Darren Orf, the author of the news – that consider the release of a new, larger iPad to be pointless. A larger iPad Air Plus would not be a “catchy” product for the average user, especially because the current line of Apple tablets completely satisfy their needs. Tablet computers are declining anyway, according to statistics, as they are gradually replaced by large screen smartphones (phablets).
Besides the alleged specifications of the new super-tablet by Apple, the Japanese source also speaks of a new generation of small-screen tablets, supposedly called the iPad Mini 4. This sounds like the iPad Mini 3 that was supposed to be released this fall, instead of the model that has only added the Touch ID sensor to the previous iteration. This, again, sounds pointless in the light of the small difference between the tablet’s 7.9″ screen and the iPhone 6 Plus 5.5″ screen.
