The month of December is highly offering in terms of movies and publications have speculated over the greatest releases with directors’ interviews, shots from sets or even actors’ confessions. The mash-up of genres and multitude of soon to be released movies trigger the need of a short guide movie list, encompassing some of the best releases of December. 1. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (17 December 2014)
The world of J. R. R. Tolkien has been enchanting cinema-goers for more than a decade now, ever since the release of The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001. After an adventurous journey, the protagonists have reached the point of a majestic battle. Peter Jackson remains the director of the movie, as fans are already accustomed. 2. Unbroken (25 December 2014)
The drama is a biography based on the life of Olympic runner Louis Zamperini, who became a worldwide hero and a great example of strength and virtue after being taken hostage by Japanese forces during World War II. This movie is Angelina Jolie’s recent attempt at paving an appreciated career as director and the star is deeply connected to the story of the movie, as she has personally met the person Louis Zamperini, who will become a cinematographic character due to her. The lead is played by the young Jack O’Connell.
3. Into the Woods (25 December 2014)
Rob Marshall’s creative movie is set to educate numerous fairy-tale characters, some beloved figures from the childhood of every cinema-goer. The Witch who is behind the entire gimmick is played by icon Meryl Streep and another malicious story character, the big bad Wolf, is interpreted by actor Johnny Depp. Other dearly beloved characters in the movie include Anna Kendrick (Cinderella), Mackenzie Mauzy (Rapunzel) Lilla Crawford (Red Riding Hood).
4. Wild (5 December 2014)
The movie is an already acclaimed and awarded drama-biography which focuses on the story of a determined woman who undertakes a ‘’1,100-mile solo hike’’. The heroine is played by Oscar winning Reese Witherspoon and is joined by names like Michiel Huisman (Jonathan), Gaby Hoffmann (Aimee) or Laura Dern (Bobbie). Director Jean-Marc Vallée is also in charge of last year’s Oscar wining Dallas Buyers Club and critics already whisper that his 2014 movie is yet another great catch.
5. Exodus: Gods and Kings (12 December 2014)
The historical-action-drama movie is an adventurous adaptation of director Ridley Scott (Alien, Prometheus). It follows the dispute between leader Moses and Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses. The 150 minutes production will bring into attention Cristian Bale (who plays the part of Moses). His rival Ramses is played by actor Joel Edgerton.
Box office reports of December and future reviews of the above mentioned titles will get to decide which movie best suited the winter and the finale of 2014.
