Assassin’s Creed: Unity barely came out last month and it seems that we can’t take a solid breather before another one in the franchise pops up. It appearsĀ that the new Assassin’s Creed will be taking place in Victorian England, and judging from the leaked screenshots we’ll also have a stroll through London. Fans of the open-world franchise have expressed great interest for a while in playing with an English Assassin and now maybe we’ll finally have a chance. And seeing how a victorian setting is present guess what kind of tagline it will have. Vict…ory.
Kotaku got word of this news thanks to a leaked trailer and now we can have an idea of what the gameplay and engine will be all about. In the seven minute “target gameplay footage” an Assassin, I’m guessing the protagonist, is seen climbing up a tower only to see the rest of London all of it being rendered in the Anvil engine. It seems that Ubisoft is making this game with the same improved engine they’ve used in Unity. A glimpse of the huge city then follows where all things can happen from gambling to carriage street-racing. Neat. After that, our Assassin descends on the streets and takes a mission from a masked woman. Of course, this mission is a trademark of the series: an assasination. The man you have to kill goes by the name of Roderick Bulmer, a child trafficker that works for the Templars. But before the woman gets to finish what she has to say, you are attacked and then have to fight on moving carriages. Pacing wise the Assassin’s Creed games have always improved so carriage battles are a welcome addition. After some killing you arrive at a railway station called the Charing Cross. Here we see the Assassin swap his iconic hood with a top hat, this possibly being a way to introduce new disguise mechanics. After that, he proceeds through the crowd in search for Bulmer. The target is sitting in the middle of a train plaza. The assassin makes his way to a platform where he can have a better lay of the land. He takes out a guard and then pulls out a grappling hook which he uses to swing down and stab Bulmer. After taking out his target, the assassins hops onto a moving train where he fights some templars. Then he leaps from the train into something that we all recognize and that is a haystack. After that the video ends with the logo of Assassin’s Creed :Victory.
Ubisoft is making some changes with Assassin’s Creed: Victory one of the main ones being the shift of studios. Ubisoft Montreal will not develop this game as Ubisoft Quebec will have that honor, The studio is more recognized for its Assassin’s Creed DLC’s for the third and fourth installments. Assassin’s Creed: Victory will supposedly be available next fall and will be a singular release not like this year with Unity and Rogue. Being the next game in the franchise, Victory will have a lot of work on its hands innovation-wise. Yet we have our dream setting, England. Now if only they’d pay attention to bugs.
