Ferrari SpA was always known for its extravagant, powerful and most importantly red sports cars, but this time it took them one step further – it has released a 1,050 horsepower hybrid monster to its test pilots, Bloomberg reports. The supercar, currently known as the FXX K. will be officially unveiled at Ferrari’s annual event that will celebrate the end of the global car racing season.
The FXX K is based on the car maker’s LaFerrari hybrid, combining a 860 horsepower V12 engine with a 190 horsepower electric motor, according to a statement published by the Maranello-based manufacturer. The new supercar will be a limited edition – only 12 of them will be built, and each one will cost approximately 2.5 million euros (that’s a bit over $3 million). It will be limited to a number of special customers, and will only be used on private race tracks during events organized by the Ferrari SpA.
According to the press release published on the official Ferrari SpA website, the FXX K will make its debut next week at the Finali Mondiali (World Finals) that will take place at the Yas Marina racetrack in Abu Dhabi. The car is the result of Ferrari’s laboratory car program, and is based on Ferrari’s first hybrid supercar LaFerrari. The K in its name stands for the KERS kinetic energy recovery system, boosting the performance of Formula 1 cars during races. The FXX K is not limited by any racing regulations or approvals, meaning that it will be “completely uncompromising, incorporating technological innovations that will guarantee an unprecedented driving experience,” as the press release says.
The FXX K has a body built with focus on maximum efficiency, it incorporates highly effective downforce generation and aero balance concepts, it has Pirelli slicks with sensors to monitor longitudinal, lateral and radial acceleration along with temperature and pressure, providing vital data for the traction system to guarantee maximum performance. The supercar develops a torque that exceeds 900 Nm, it accelerates 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in under three seconds, reaches 186 mph (300 km/h) in 15 seconds, and has a top speed of 217 miles per hour. In short, it has the power and speed of an average Formula 1 race car.
