The Crow Revives with a New Director

The Crow was announced to revive ‘’from the land of the dead’’, but not as a remake – as most of the people believe and suppose – because the new film intends to follow more accurately James O’Barr’s graphic novel: ‘’I don’t want to remake that film, that film is perfect as it is. I want to do your book, literally page-for-page adaptation’’, this is the confession Javier Gutierrez made to the creator of The Crow way back, when he was seriously thinking about directing the future film. It was this exact point of view the one which made O’Barr reconsider his initial restraint towards the idea. Yesterday, Deadline announced that the same Gutierrez is withdrawing from the position of the director. The newly coined director is Corin Hardy.

‘’Who is Corin Hardy?’’, you might ask yourselves. Let me give you some names: Ed Sheeran, The Prodigy or Paolo Nutini. These are only some of the artists who enjoyed Hardy’s music video directing skills. Sure, a movie needs more ingenuity, patience and steadiness than a let’s say… Warrior’s Dance video. What is more, he is currently directing The Hallow, a horror movie initially entitled The Woods, for which Hardy also credits as screenwriter. His inclination towards dark themed creations and oddly portrayed characters is most tangible in Butterfly (2003), a short animation-film produced, edited, written, directed and more by Corin Hardy himself.

At the release of The Crow, Javier Gutierrez will most definitely regret parting ways with his initial project for The Ring 3. James O’Barr, the creator of The Crow agreed to watch closely the project which is tagged as ‘’spring production’’ when Gutierrez joined the crew as director. O’Barr also underlined that he would most definitely not agree with a ‘’The Crow – Remake’’ as the image of the regretted Brandon Lee still haunts his memories: ‘’The level of physicality and charisma he brought to the role was amazing to witness (…) he brought the right mix of humor, pain and menace to the role’’. Rest assured, fans, whoever will take the lead in the movie (it might not be Luke Evens, after all), will not even consider replacing or remaking the good old Eric Draven we all fell in love with.
