FX struck gold with the first season of Fargo. The Coen Brothers set the bedrock in 1994 with the movie and ensured a rich world filled with crime, politeness and lots of snow. Odd ingredients but the result was a success in both mediums. Now the second season of Fargo is picking up steam and this time it’s going backwards a bit. With about 25 years or so. Yes, the second season will be set in 1979. And its cast is slowly getting bigger.
One of the new additions is Burn Notice’s Jeffrey Donovan who will play the role of Dodd. Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman has also been offered the role of Carl but he is still in talks for the part. It’s a great offer for the actor as Parks and Recreation is approaching its end. The tone of the show has a more darker shade of comedy so Offerman will have a bit more to chew on. Jumping from Ron Swanson to Carl will prove easy though.
The first season of Fargo featured brilliant performances all around from Martin Freeman,Colin Hanks and Allison Tolman but the one who stole the spotlight was Billy Bob Thornton with his masterful portrayal of Lorne Malvo, the calculated predator. The second season of Fargo will be set at the backdrop of the 70’s and will revolve around a younger Lou Solverson (played by Keith Carradine in the first season) who recently returned back home after the war in Vietnam. In the first season, Solverson made a parallel to his life as a rookie cop and judging from what he said, it does not sound pretty.
Fargo’s second season will not only draw inspiration from the original movie but it will mix it up a bit with other Coen Brothers movies such as Miller’s Crossing and The Man Who Wasn’t There. A source told TheWrap that besides Donovan and Offerman, Mike Bradecich and Allan Dobrescu are in talks to star in Fargo. Rachel Keller is set to play as Simone. We’ll just have to wait a little while longer until confirmation from FX sets things straight. The second season of Fargo is set to air in 2015.
