Grammy Hall of Fame brings into focus grand names of the musical universe and the 2015 list is set to please a large variety of listeners, with album titles and singles ranging from gospel to heavy music, from punk to ballads and country touches from the 1900s to the 1970s and they will all be honored accordingly. For some, the list includes appreciated performers and great singles, for others pieces unheard before and for some, the 2015 Grammy Hall of Fame inductees might fit either their latest or their long-time musical preferences.
A quick browse through the list of nominees reveals names like Kraftwerk, a German electric revelation of the 1970s, which parade with their 1974 album, Autobahn, that stands next to The 4 Seasons and their ”Big Girls Don’t Cry” Single. Bob Dylan’s Blood on Tracks, a Colombia 1975 album brings into the list a legend of folk, blues, country, gospel and more. Harry Belafonte enters with his 1956 album Calypso, whereas Abba resorts to its forever ”Dancing Queen”. To the punkish side of the list we have the path openers Sex Pistols with their 1977 Studio album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols and on an even heavier note, the 2015 Grammy Hall of Fame brings us Alice Cooper and his ”School’s Out” (the dream lyrics of every pupil). Leonard Cohen attends with his Songs of Leonard Cohen. The Suzanne interpreter is not only a splendid voice, but also a soothing read, be it in terms of poetry or novels, which are indeed a Favorite Game.
The Grammy Hall of Fame honors recordings that are at least twenty-five years old and their significance is observable in more than one field, the names bearing a musical, historical or cultural heritage. The newly announced 27 enlistees make up a total of 987 Hall of Fame titles, including both singles and albums. Variety traced a statement of CEO Neil Portnow, who declared that “This year’s Grammy Hall Of Fame entries not only represent a diverse collection of influential and historically significant recordings but also reflect the changing climate of music through the decades. These memorable, inspiring and iconic recordings are proudly added to our growing catalog — knowing that they have become a part of our musical, social, and cultural history.”
