David Schwimmer switches comedy with crime, as the Friends’ veteran joins Ryan Murphy, American Horror Story co-creator into his voyage about American life, crimes and their following trails. The TV mini-series is adequately entitled American Crime Story and Schimmer will join the first season (comprised of ten episodes), American Crime: The People v. O.J. Simpson as Robert Kardashian, friend and lawyer of football player O. J. Simpson.
The People v. O. J. Simpson is a sonorous title not only in the history of American justice, but also in the memories of American citizens, as the trial of the once football player has been one of the most discussed and controversial over the past decades. Starting with the year 1994, which marked the assassinations of Simpson’s then wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and waiter Ronald Goldman, O. J. has been under the close-observation of the American justice. The role played by David Schwimmer is of great importance in the court context, as he is cast as the football player’s attorney.
The first season of the FX series will have as basic inspiration for the screenplay Jeffrey Toobin’s book on the highly publicized matter, entitled The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson and Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski are the two names anointed to pen the script. In this way, Ryan Murphy sets his main point, he has the responsibility to show the facts as accurate as possible, with behind the scenes and attorney opinions: ‘’O.J. Simpson trial (will be) told from the perspective of the lawyers that explores the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution confidence, defense wiliness, and the LAPD’s history with the city’s African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.’’
David Schwimmer is just another great name to join the A class cast of the first season of American Crime Story. The already established actors include names like Cuba Gooding Jr., who is set to take the lead and the name of O. J. Simpson. The relationship built between the defendant and Robert Kardashian aka David Schwimmer is not only a professional one, but also one of friendship and the show will definitely focus on the relationship between the two personalities (and characters). Another great cast is Sarah Paulson, an American Horror Story favorite, The Hollywood Reporter notes. The actress will play the part of prosecutor Marcia Clark.
Although David Schwimmer now embarks into a crime series adventure and although he has been part of numerous and versatile productions, he will always remain in the memory of the wide public as Ross, short for Doctor Ross Geller.
