Channing Tatum is devoted to X-Men, as his name is not only associated with X-Men: Apocalypse, but also with the X-Men spinoff, Gambit. According to Variety, Twentieth Century Fox set the release dates of numerous highly expected movies of 2016, including the already mentioned spinoff. The Marvel mind controller will reach theatres on 7 October 2016. As related information, Apocalypse is known to be released on 27 May 2016, giving the spinoff enough time to reach its audience before it is actually released.
The Marvel Comics character portrayed by Channing Tatum is accustomed with fame, as it first appeared in 1990’s Uncanny X-Men Annual #14: ‘’Gambit is just the sort of tortured soul that X-readers love, and his continued presence in the TV and movie spinoffs cements his status as one of the greats’’, IGN agrees. Gambit is a grand mentalist, with psychological skills to influence and manipulate even the most unimpressionable audience. He is a mutant and he can both create and control pure kinetic energy however he desires. He is a real Ace, literally, as one of his abilities include card-throwing and even bō usage – a tall Japanese weapon used especially in martial arts.
Before the involvement of Channing Tatum in the X-Men universe, Gambit appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009 and was portrayed by Taylor Kitch. Anyway, in 2016’s Apocalypse, Tatum is officially replacing the former Kitch for the role of Remy LeBeau/ Gambit. As a consequence of this fact, the latter performer was set to interpret the mind controlling character in its special spinoff.
Parties are spread between those believing that Bryan Singer, Apocalypse director, should have followed Gavin Hood’s choice for Gambit, as was initially set in the 2009 movie. When it comes to the LeBeau solo movie, bearing its name, comments are even more caustic. In the case of Gambit, there is enough room for debate, considering the fact that plot or casting details (apart from the lead) are yet unknown. What was officially released, though, is that the movie will reach theatres on 7 October 2016.
