Elon Musk Wants to Take the Internet into Space

The CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, Elon Musk, the man who wants to move the human civilization to Mars, wants to also create conditions in space for the Internet. Elon Musk intends to build a satellite network, orbiting high above our planet, in order to serve internet access to communities that are unable to access it at this moment. The profits from this endeavor will be used in the attempt to colonize Mars.

Elon Musk announced Friday that he will launch a fleet of satellites to make Internet faster and more accessible across the globe. The information was delivered at a private meeting in Seattle, while some details of the project were shared with Bloomerg before the actual event. Also among other things, the CEO of SpaceX said that the profits will pour into the Mars colonial project: “We see it as a long-term revenue source for SpaceX to be able to fund a city on Mars,…”

According to GeekWire, to achieve this goal, Space X will build and put in orbit approximately 4.000 satellites that will orbit Earth about 750 miles above. Elon Musk is a person well known for his strong willingness to colonize the relative close neighbors of Earth and his plans presume colonizing Mars by the mid 2020s. Elon Musk’s SpaceX was founded in 2002 “to revolutionize  space technology, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets.” The company is the winner of a $2.6 billion contract with NASA last year and it is one of the few private companies that will transport astronauts to the ISS (International Space Station) starting 2017.

Elon Musk looks at his “Space Internet” project as a way to help him get to Mars. It is estimated that the network will take at least five years to construct and develop and the costs will rise to around $10 billion. The project will be overseen from the brand-new SpaceX headquarters, situated in Seattle. In this scenario, Elon Musk hopes to connect communities throughout the globe to the Internet and in doing so fund his own “mission to Mars”. What the future will unravel, is yet to be revealed. One thing is certain though, Elon Musk will do everything to make his dream and the dream of many others come true.
