The Leatherman Tread Is Both a Multi-Tool and a Watch

Leatherman represents guaranteed value when it comes to producing multi-tools, pocket tools, knives and a variety of pragmatically useful gadgets. This is why it probably comes as a shock that their latest gimmick is a watch. Although Leatherman does not have a watch-designing background, The Leatherman Tread is not necessarily a typical one, becoming an actual wrist tool. In this way, Leatherman designed not only a totally different and interestingly looking watch, but added practical functions to its ingenious design.

The Leatherman Tread was initially designed as a multi-functional bracelet and its watch feature was furthermore added, thus giving the gadget probably the best excuse for becoming the users’ favorite item as every-day piece of ‘jewelry’’. Jewelry is, of course, a metaphor in the case of such a manly built, somehow biking and with a tint of military tanks trails in its design. But its bulky design perfectly fits its features and multiple uses. Tread represents 25 hard-working tools, including Philips and flat-head screwdrivers, hex and box wrenches or a cutting hook, perfect for out-door activities, hiking or any inevitable event. It even has a bottle opener, perfect for parties or a romantic dinner.

Amazingly, the Leatherman Tread is customizable, which gives the user the possibility to remove any feature in order to adjust its size. So, the Leather Tread is not only a wearable multi-tool, practically useful and handy in any situation, but it also provides the user creative freedom. Tread features 11 interchangeable links but what about the watch? Well, it was also designed as an optional feature, so the Leatherman tread can be wore either as a multi-tool bracelet or a multi-tool watch. The Swiss made time piece is water resistant with an additional shock resistant Sapphire crystal. The potential user is also given the opportunity to choose between two main design variants: Stainless Steel or Black DLC, according to personal preferences.

The Leatherman Tread is interesting not only when it comes to its design or functionality, with its history and origins representing another great catch. President Ben Rivera confessed that during a Disneyland trip with his family, he was stopped at the gates because he was thought to wear a knife, while he was in fact, carrying the Leatherman Skeletool. Then, the idea of the Tread emerged: ‘’I knew there had to be another way to carry my tools with me that would be accepted by security.’’ That it eventually became a watch is owned to the feedback received by Rivera, once he started wearing the bracelet: “Folks immediately associated the bracelet design with a watch and asked, where’s the watch? We decided to make a timepiece an optional part of the Tread.”
