Fox and Jerry Bruckheimer bring us the Devil with Lucifer

Fox is seeing the potential of comics and is taking action once more. First we’ve seen how baddies were taken off in a pre-Batman Gotham and now we’re getting a more divine and clever take of the Devil. Fox sealed the deal with DC Comics and has now ordered a pilot for Lucifer, based on the character which appeared first in Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series and then in Lucifer’s own run. Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Sleepy Hollow executive producer Len Wiseman are attached to the project. Along with Bruckheimer and Wiseman, Californication creator Tom Kapinos will pen the script and also executive produce with the help of his Aggresive Mediocrity company.

The TV adaptation for Lucifer will follow closely the exploits of, who else, but the Devil himself aka Lucifer Morningstar. The plot is enticing enough to eventually warrant a full season order from Fox, just as they did with Gotham. The drama will focus on Lucifer, who gets bored with managing hell and decides to leave his realm unattended and settle in L.A where he opens a piano bar with the help of Mazikeen, a daughter of Lilith. We don’t know what story arcs will Fox include in the TV adaptation but one smart choice is to focus on Lucifer’s free will perspective and how this clashes with Heaven’s own take.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Warner Bros. Television will also produce the DC comic turned TV adaptation through Kapinos. Bruckheimer was originally attached to another Fox project (another DC Comics property) named Global Frequency but it did not move forward.  Fox’s Lucifer joins another DC adaptation, more specifically CBS’s Supergirl, both shows having pilot pickups this season. One thing is certain and that’s how DC always exceed in the television medium while Marvel smashes the box office. Besides Fox and CBS, CW’s Arrow and The Flash are confirmed for a second season and NBC’s Constantine while not as popular (although it has lots potential) may possibly move to SyFy under a new name- Hellblazer. Expect Lucifer to enchant you in the near future on Fox.
