If there’s anything that could finally bring those Aqua Man jokes to an end, it’s this picture of Jason Momoa portraying the DC Comics character. The image was posted by “Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice” director Zack Snyder, who cast Momoa in the role last year, alongside Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. The movie is due to be released May 2016.
Since his first appearance in the DC multiverse back in 1941, Aquaman has gained somewhat of a bad reputation: while all other Justice League members have remarkable powers, such as Superman’s ability to fly, Flash being able to move faster than the speed of light, or Wonder Woman’s strength, poor Aquaman has the main power of communicating with underwater creatures.
In all fairness, it seems like Aquaman’s real superpower is actually surviving for over seventy years and soldiering on throughout all the jokes and comments; he’ been put down, bullied and constantly made fun of and now he emerges from the seas, looking all powerful and threatening. Having similar roles up his sleeve, as Game of Thrones’s Khal Drogo and Conan the Barbarian, that showcase his raw masculinity, Momoa seems to be the perfect fit to play the part.
Although it remains to be seen how convincing the new Aquaman will be, and if it’s going to change the way he is being perceived by the general public opinion, we are more than excited to get this new glance into what seems to be a very promising new twist in the Justice League Team. And, to be completely honest, as the recently released image of Momoa as Aquaman sparks new debates regarding the highly anticipated movie, we are only left wanting more. Let’s face it: who would have thought a guy who can talk to fish can be so damn sexy?
