Sunday’s Academy Awards gave us a number of memorable moments, from Julianne Moore’s Actress in a Leading Role win to Graham Moore’ heartfelt speech after “The Imitation Game” received the Best Adapted Screenplay Award. However, Lady Gaga’s performance was so surprisingly beautiful, she deserves our applause. The singer took the stage in a gorgeous white gown and stunned us all with her “Sound of Music” medley. The artist not only received a standing ovation for the dazzling performance, but also seemed to have truly impressed Julie Andrews, who was moved to tears by the whole act. Andrews stated, after thanking Gaga for the performance: “It warmed my heart, it really did”.
It’s plain to see that Gaga is in full process of reinventing herself and gradually letting go of her “crazy” image. She is giving up the outrageous outfits and going for a more clean, elegant and classy look, reminding us that underneath all of that there is a singer with real talent. Her performance from last night showed us just that, and we’re glad to see her focus more on delivering great musical moments rather than constantly trying to shock the public. Though it’s not only her on-stage classy outfit that proves this, but also her red carpet looks that have changed over the last few months. At Sunday’s Oscars, she chose to wear a beautiful Azzedine Alaïa dress paired with oversized leather gloves, just enough to give it a little twist. One can only wonder if this transformation is a result of her finally being happily committed to fiancee Taylor Kinney.
Regardless of what Gaga is wearing, be it outrageous or classy, there is one fact that we can’t overlook, and that is that she is a very talented performer, capable of delivering memorable moments, which is something we seem to have a shortage of lately. Great job reminding us about the beauty of a great performance with last night’s beautiful tribute, Gaga! We hope to see more of that in the days to come!
