Supergirl Costume Unveiled: First Pictures of Melissa Benoist Available

Supergirl seems to be an exception in a cinematographic world full of male heroes invading our theaters and TV screens. Of course, superheroes are mainly male, but exceptions like Cat Woman prove that some ‘’heroic parts’’ are better left to females. Now, with the first pictures of Melissa Benoist reviled, the idea of a female Superman might seem even more challenging and attractive than the more famous male variant of ‘’Superman’’.

Supergirl is a 2015 television series which centers on the story of DC Comics female superhero portrayed by actress Melissa Benoist. The first Supergirl pictures were reviled on Friday, thus a tiny bit of the upcoming TV adventure being forwarded to fans. The designer of the Supergirl costume is Colleen Atwood, a three-time Oscar winner. Her work includes clothing in pictures like Tim Burton’s Big Eyes, Dark Shadows or Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Collen Atwood was also an Oscar nominee this year, for her contribution to Costume Design for Into the Woods, but the big title eventually went to Milena Canonero and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The Supergirl costume is not the first superhero experience of costume designer Colleen Atwood. Other DC Comics costumes signed Coleen are the ones of characters “The Flash” and “Arrow”. In the available picture of Supergirl Melissa Benoist, the craftsmanship of the costume designer is obvious and gives the hero girl costume the perfect DC Comics allure. Firstly, we have the famous knee-high red boots and the long red cape. Secondly, the blue upper side of the costume matches with the red skirt (a more realistic version than the Superman underpants, after all). The blue and the red parts of the costume are delimited by a yellow V-line belt and the Supergirl S sign stands almighty and promising.

Apart from her Supergirl role, Melissa Benoist is probably best known for her part as Marley Rose in Glee television series. Other pictures in which the young actress shared roles is the Oscar nominated Whiplash or 2008’s Tennessee.
